Kakahi – Taumarunui Accommodation – stay off the beaten Track in New Zealand

October 17, 2015 by Rosemary Neave 2 Comments

Kakahi main BedroomThe Women Travel Accommodation Network has women owned and run accommodation – providing accommodation in some very special and sometimes out of the way places in New Zealand and around the world.

See listings here  The latest listing in NZ is Kakahi Adventure Lodge – here is a little more of their story.

Kakahi houseMaxine Arden left her corporate Auckland job and embraced a life of peace and quiet in the beautiful countryside with her man, the lovely Mike.  Kakahi is almost as far as you can go from the bright city lights in New Zealand, and Maxine has lived  there now for 5 years.

Maxine writes: I sold my house in the hills and embraced a life of peace and quiet in the beautiful countryside.

Our Valley at Kakahi I love it! I spend my time in my garden, making improvements to Mike’s once bachelor pad, sewing, working at the Taumarunui Information Centre, and looking after my beautiful grandson Konna.

The house we rent is the one time homestead of Mike’s grandparents, and the house he grew up in, so it has very special meaning to us. We have worked hard to breathe new life into the house and maintain it’s unique feel. The house seems to come alive when there are people in it!

Mike can take you kayaking….

There are three bedrooms and it can sleep 7 – so is a great option for a group adventure

Mike and I are both well traveled and enjoy meeting travellers. We have a simple life philosophy and are very much into sustainable living.

We can be involved in your stay as much or as little as you wish.

What to do at Kakahi

whanganuiFish, hike, bike, ski, kayak, motor cycle, quad bike, ride the rails, jet boat, horse ride, golf, or sit in the sun and read. A short drive from hot pools, the mountains, rivers and bush trails. Do some gardening if you feel like it! Soak in the bath!

Be aware that once you have visited Kakahi, you will want to come back!

The tranquility and sleepiness gets into your soul!

We lFacebook_Badgeook forward to seeing you soon.
