Staying in The Clarence Valley

March 15, 2016 by Rosemary Neave 1 Comment

P1030069Clarence is just north of Kaikoura at the top of the South Island. A group of us have decided to go rafting on the Clarence River, and since it is an early start, we decide to drive up the day before and stay overnight.

We stayed at Ochiltree Retreat in the Clarence Valley

A spacious character cottage set in a lovely garden – we all enjoyed the apples on the tree. Three double rooms and two single mattresses enable the 8 of us to stay.

P1030043Linda our host was amazing and offered to cook dinner which was superb – Fresh vegetables from the garden and venison freshly killed from the hills and fresh smoked fish. $35/head it was a bargain.

Linda has decorated the house in a colourful and funky way, it is a delight to stay in.  All of us decided that we wanted to come back and spend longer exploring the area.  Find it on Airbnb
